Abstract

A simple and economical approach to synthesize Graphene Nanosheets (GNSs) via the exfoliation and intercalation of natural graphite flake material into graphene oxide (GO) following a γ-irradiation process is demonstrated. The GO forms stable colloidal dispersion in polar aprotic solvent and in suspension in N, N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) and ina homogenous phase is reduced by γ-ray induced reduction method which is environmentally friendly and cost effective. The reduction is due to the electrons generated during the radiolysis of DMF. In this study, we report on the physical/chemical characteristics of the γ-ray induced reduced graphene oxide (γ –rGO) suspension adhered on glass substrates.
