Abstract

The suppression of transition temperature in Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7- delta with increasing praseodymium concentration x has given rise to a series of experimental investigations. By making use of the data from energy dispersive X-ray analysis, the ingredients of the materials in the crystal-like layers of the samples can be investigated in a systematic way. This provides sensible and useful clues to understand the compositions of various samples. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the relation between the doping concentration of praseodymium and the grain size. Apart from this, the basic properties of the above-mentioned compound were studied in detail. Both the magnetic pair-breaking mechanism and the hole-filling mechanism can be investigated from these properties.
