Abstract

Macroglobulinic and normal mucoprotein were isolated and purified from blood serum. The physical and physicochemical properties of both compounds were similar, but the isoelectric point was higher in the macroglobulinic mucoprotein. The molecular weight of both compounds was determined by sedimentation, diffusion and lightscattering methods: values of from 41,000 to 47,000 were calculated. Large differences in the content of sugars and aminated sugars were found. The number of residues of monoaminodicarboxylic acids is higher in macroglobulinic mucoprotein than in the normal compound.
