Abstract

Background: Radioactive seed localization to guide surgical excision of non-palpable breast lesions is widely studied, e.g. I-125. Using a radioactive marker have some drawbacks, e.g. requiring license procedures to comply with nuclear law. Another wire-free guidance system, based on radio-frequency (RF) identification, which gives signal strength and depth reading was launched in 2017, called the LOCalizer (Hologic Inc, USA). The LOCalizer consists of a RF-tag to be implanted through a 12-gauge needle, a reader (65 mm range) and a disposable, sterile handheld probe (35 mm range).
