Abstract
Abstract Titanium doped binary alkali borosilicate Glasses were synthesized by melt-quench method. Micro structure was analysed by XRD, SEM and EDX techniques. UV–Visible absorption spectra recorded between 200 and 1300 nm shows charge transfer band at 245 nm. Optical bandgaps were evaluated from Tauc plots. Electronic polarizability and metallization criterion were computed using Lorentz-Lorentz equation. A study of FTIR spectra on these glasses also supports their tendency of metallisation. Emission spectra and TGA/DTA thermogram also recorded. These glasses act as good shields for UV rays because of strong absorption in UV region and transparency in visible to NIR regions.
