Abstract

Abstract : Infrared emission has been observed from exothermic gas-aerosol reactions. The principal system examined was liquid chlorosulfonic and aerosol reacting with ammonia and water vapor. The aerosols employed in this study have been polydisperse with mass medium diameters of a few microns. In order to develop methods to investigate the kinetics of rapid gas-aerosol reactions, a generator has been designed which produces monodisperse aerosol in the 0.5 - 1.5 micrometer diameter range. This generator can be used with corrosive and reactive liquids. A flow reaction and sizing system has been designed and constructed. Originator supplied keywords include: Infrared emission, Gas-aerosol reactions, Exothermic reactions, Acid-base reactions, Chlorosulfonic acid aerosol, Gaseous ammonia.
