We conclude that the anomalous red-horizontal branch of NGC 362 cannot be explained by differences in heavy-element abundance. Small differences of the order of A Y = 0.03 in the helium abundance, or of a billion years in age, as pointed out by Rood, appear to be the most likely explanation. A spread, however, appears to exist in [Fe/H] among the individual stars on the giant branch, and this parameter correlates with a similar spread in CN strengths.
