Abstract

Total of 40 and 20 estrous cervical mucus samples were collected from 20 repeat breeder and 10 normal breeder Kankrej cows, respectively and were examined for color (clear or cloudy), consistency (thin or thick), fern pattern (typical, atypical or nil,), pH and spinnbarkeit. These cows were bred and pregnancy diagnosis was performed at 60 days post breeding. The present observation indicated that cows with thin and clear discharge, alkaline pH and spinnbarkeit >15 cm, showing typical fern pattern were normal breeder, whereas, cloudy, thick, acidic cervical mucus with atypical fern pattern and spinnbarkeit ranging from 7 to 9 cm were repeat breeder cows.
