Abstract

The glass samples with precise composition 60B2O3-20CdO-5Al2O3-(15-x) CaF2-(x)MoO3 (where × = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2) was prepared by using standard melt quenching method. The physical and optical characteristics of the glass samples were identified by making use density and UV spectra. In the investigated compositions, the increase of non-bridging oxygen atoms, due to the conversion of Mo6+ ions to Mo5+ ions, with increased MoO3 content resulting in lowering the optical band gaps is noticed. The non-bridging oxygen levels will go up with an increase in BO4 units, improving the compositions density inturn raises refractive index and other physical parameters. Because of more density and refractive index these glass materials can have its applications in the area of radiation shielding and optical communications.
