Abstract

Abstract The physical and chemical stability of the ichthyotoxin(s) produced by the Florida Red Tide organism Gymnodinium breve has been examined. The toxin is acid stable, base labile, and rapidly inactivated at temperatures greater than 70°C. The half life of the toxin at 80°C is 0.5 hr. In addition, the toxin is photosensitive and is inactivated by ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation.
