Abstract

AbstractAmmonia has been expected as hydrogen and energy carriers because it has high gravimetric and volumetric H2 densities with 17.8 wt% and 10.7kgH2/100L, respectively. The volumetric hydrogen density is above 1.5 times of liquid hydrogen, and it is easily liquefied under 1 MPa at 298 K. Direct combustion of ammonia is also possible without emission of CO2. The heat of combustion of ammonia is above 1.3 times of liquid hydrogen. Ammonia is a safest substance based on the flammability because of the high flash point. However, health hazard of ammonia is large. This correlated with the large solubility in water.KeywordsAmmoniaHydrogen carrierEnergy carrierHydrogen densityHeat of combustionFlash pointSolubility
