Abstract

In order to examine whether the peculiar receptive field patterns which are determined electrophysiologically in photoreceptors of flesh-fliesBoettcherisca peregrina contribute to fly behaviour, the phototactic behaviour in response to eight kinds of illuminated targets (Fig. 1) including those having the same shapes as the receptive field patterns were studied. Two kinds of experiments were carried out. One was the single target experiment and the other the discrimination experiment with a double-choice setup.
