Abstract

Photosensitive lipids and liposomes may be designed by a variety of strategies. These include the photochemical modification of individual lipids in the bilayer; the photoinduced change in the association of polyelectrolytes with liposomes; and the photoinitiated polymerization of some or all of the lipids in the liposome. The interaction of light with photosensitive liposomes can cause bilayer reorganization with possible applications in imaging, sensing, as well as therapeutics. The latter is the focus of this review.
