Abstract

1. 1. Fundulus heteroclitus possesses two codominant alleles, B and B′, coding for the B-type subunits of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isozymes and normally expresses three LDH phenotypes, BB, BB′ and B′B′. 2. 2. In dark-adapted animals the B-locus polymorphism disappears and all individuals express identical LDH isozyme patterns. 3. 3. Apparently, lack of photo-stimulation simultaneously represses the B-locus and derepresses other loci coding for immunologically related, but electrophoretically dissimilar subunits.
