Abstract
In Lung Cancer 1982 we described the technique of photoradiation with hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) for tumor localization and also treatment of lung cancer. We reported the possibility of the detection of lesions endoscopically unrecognizable such as occult cancer or precancerous lesions by means of fluorescence photoradiation and discussed the curative treatment in early stage central type cases and possible treatment of precancerous lesions. In addition, the potential for this method for preoperative treatment in advanced cases to reduce the extent of resection or to render otherwise inoperable cases operable was also proposed.
