Abstract

A comparison between the gas microphone and photopyroelectric techniques for the study of liquid crystal phase transitions is reported. Both the techniques have been used to measure simultaneously the behaviour of the specific heat, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity over the S A-N phase transition in 9CB liquid crystal. As expected from the theory, an increase in the sensitivity for the Photopyroelectric technique has been demonstrated.KeywordsLiquid CrystalThermal DiffusivityThick SampleThermal EffusivitiesThermal Diffusion LengthThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
