Abstract

Magnetic Fe 3O 4/poly(acrylamide) particles have been prepared by photolysis of magnetite in degassed aqueous solutions of acrylamide. About 8% by weight of polymer is present in each particle. This is shown by SEM to be covered fairly evenly over the Fe 3O 4 surface. The effect of the method of magnetite preparation on the yield of bound polymer has been studied. The use of these magnetic polymer particles in immobilization of the enzyme glucose oxidase is described.
