Abstract

The photophysical properties of a hydrophilic molecule 7-(diethylamino) coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (7-DCA) in micelles of ethylene oxide-propylene oxide X-shaped copolymers viz. Tetronic (T-904, T-908) and reverse Tetronic (T-90R4) were reported. A less polar environment showing greater blue shifting of the absorption maximum of 7-DCA in 10 wt% T-904 compared to the other two copolymers. With 0.1 wt% of T90R4 no appreciable change in the emission maximum of the dye could be probed. In T-908, 7-DCA faced greater retardation towards rotational relaxation compared to T-904. The results are discussed in terms of structure and molecular characteristics of the copolymers.
