Abstract

As a class of important fluorescence dyes, BODIPY and its derivatives have the advantages of high quantum yield, good biocompatibility and easy structure adjustment, etc. In view of the structural characteristics of BODIPY, through the methods of introducing electron donors and electron acceptors into BODIPY core, the photophysical properties can be adjusted effectively through the push–pull electron effect. In this review, based on different fluorescence regulation mechanisms and the BODIPY electronic roles as donating, withdrawing or linkage parts in the molecular structures, we summarized the research progress and application directions of BODIPY-based derivatives with donor–acceptor electron system.
