Abstract

In male rosefinches (Carpodacus erythrinus) 12 h non-stimulatory photoperiods (12L∶12D) were as effective in stimulating testicular recrudescence, as were long photoperiods (18L∶6D) when presented as several intermittent symmetrical photoperiods. The results are discussed with regard to the hypothesis that photoperiodic effects in birds are mediated by circadian rhythms.
