Abstract

AbstractThe gonadal responses of female rosefinches (Carpodacus erythrinus) have been described and investigated with lighting regimens of various combinations. It is evident that the ovarian cycle is photoperiodically regulated. The rosefinch has a definite photoperiodic threshold to its gonadal activities, the rate of growth being greater in longer photoperiods. A refractory period has also been found in its ovarian cycle, which requires at least 7 weeks of short day treatment for its dissipation.
