Abstract

The expressions for the electromagnetic components of the polariton modes in a dispersive dielectric medium differ from the mode amplitudes of the electromagnetic field in a nondispersive dielectric. They solve different master equations and are subject to different normalization conditions. We discuss the physics of these differences.
