Abstract

Terahertz (THz) wave, whose frequency is ranging from 100 GHz to 10 THz, is one of the most promising media for ultra-high data-rate wireless transmissions. A successful approach of generating the THz wave is photomixing of two different lightwaves by a photomixer. The requirements for the THz wave as a high-frequency carrier are coherency and high power. The former is degraded by the phase fluctuation between two lightwaves which is caused by fluctuation of the fiber-based optical paths. The latter is limited by the power saturation at the uni-traveling carrier photodiode (UTC-PD) used as the photomixier. This presentation shows our photonics-based approach to solving these issues.
