Abstract

A concept for an ultrahigh-speed loadable and erasable optical memory unit using a photonic temporal integrator is proposed and demonstrated. As a proof-of-concept experiment, a 1-bit fiber Bragg grating-based optical memory element is implemented, demonstrating an unprecedented switching time of ~1.4 ps with a total memory lifetime approaching 800 ps.
