Abstract

A kind of photonic crystal fibre polarization filter with round lattice based on surface plasmon resonance is proposed. Complete coupling happens between core mode and second-order surface plasmon polariton (SPP) mode when the phase-matching condition is satisfied. We can adjust the resonance point and strength in two polarizations by changing the fibre birefringence and the thickness of gold film. Numerical simulation with the finite-element method shows that the resonance strength can reach 364.8 dB/cm in the y-polarized direction at the communication wavelength of 1550 nm, when the diameter of big air holes that lead to the birefringence is 2.0 m and the thickness of gold film is 26 nm. Moreover, when the fibre length is 800 m, the peak value of the crosstalk can reach 231.8 dB and the bandwidth of the crosstalk better than 20 dB can reach 130 nm. This makes it a promising candidate for polarization filter devices.
