Abstract

Two dimensional nanostructure graphene oxide (GO) was successfully prepared via Hummer's method. GO was characterized using various state of the art instruments like X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), UV visible Spectra (UV-vis). The crystalline nature of the GO is confirmed through XRD. FTIR spectra showed the occurrence of functional groups contains oxygen in the GO nanostructures. The surface morphology was obtained from SEM analysis and the presence of component was observed from Elemental Analyzer (EDAX). TEM analysis showed that the GO sheets about 100nms with sheet like morphology. The test of UV-vis spectrometer indicated that GO sheet possessed excellent optical responses. The obtained refractive index is used to study the electric field distribution, 2D band structure and photonic band gap with the help of Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method.
