Abstract

A mechanism for producing N-photon coherent states, based on the nonlinear optical balance in N-harmonic generation, is investigated. We examine the statistical properties of these states and show that they are independent on initial pump statistics and governed only by the absorption rates of the two modes. We find that in the limit of strong pump depletion the n-photon coherent state has a sub-poissonian statistics, while it is a usual coherent state in the case of weak pump absorption.
