Abstract

Photon emission following slow ion-atom collisions has been observed for the collision system He2+ + He. The energy of the incoming beam of helium ions was varied between 10 keV and 35 keV. In particular, the velocity dependent relative photon emission cross-sections for the 1s2 1S0-1snp 1P1 (n⩽4) resonance series in neutral helium are reported and compared with theoretical results. The work has been performed at the Uppsala University ECR ion source facility.
