Abstract

Abstract Electrospun ultrafine fibers of europium-complex/PMMA are prepared and the uniform diameters are estimated to be submicron magnitudes 0.7–1.1 μm. Intense red fluorescence is observed in ultrathin layers of Eu(DBM)3/PMMA and Eu(DBM)3Phen/PMMA fibers under ultraviolet (UV) radiation and effectiveness of Phen ligand is verified in enhancing emission behavior. Under 535.8 μW UV-LED pump power, net emission powers are derived to be 5.8 and 36.6 μW, and net emission photon numbers are identified to be 18.2 × 1012 and 114.6 × 1012 cps for Eu(DBM)3/PMMA and Eu(DBM)3Phen/PMMA fibers, respectively. Simultaneously, total quantum yields reach to 2.80% and 12.94% in fibers not containing and containing Phen ligand. Fluorescence quantification demonstrates the potential of europium-complexes/PMMA submicron fibers as UV–visible conversion layer for flexible solar cells.
