Abstract

We derive double polarization observables for the photodisintegration of $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ with an incident polarized photon beam. In particular we study the effect of the ground state \ensuremath{\alpha}-particle D wave on these observables in a simple nuclear model. We find that in general the double polarization observables offer no clear advantage to the corresponding variables studied in the single polarization $^{4}\mathrm{He}$(\ensuremath{\gamma},d\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${)}^{2}$H reaction. However, the photon asymmetry \ensuremath{\Sigma} appears as a promising observable for the study of ground state effects.
