Abstract

The photon energy dependence of gamma radiation sensitized TLD phosphors (LiF TLD-100; Al 2O 3 : Si, Ti; Mg 2SiO 4 : Tb and CaSO 4 : Tm) in the energy region 25 keV–1.25 MeV was found to be considerably lower than that of the corresponding unsensitized phosphors. A Gradual increase in sensitization with energy of the test radiation was found to be responsible for the modification in the energy dependence of these phosphors. The removal of competitors to luminescent centers in sensitized LiF TLD-100 and the competing deep traps in other sensitized TL phosphors were found to satisfactorily explain the above phenomenon. Sensitized TLD phosphors have potential applications in radiation dosimetry, since they have high TL sensitivity and reduced photon energy dependence.
