Abstract
The CW photomodulation technique has been applied to study the photoexcitation of a form of soluble polyacetylene with controlled conjugation length. We have been able to change the average conjugation length from a few hundred units down to 20 units. A systematic variation of the photoinduced absorption spectra is observed upon decreasing the electronic delocalization. The linear dependence of the observed shift of the charged soliton photoinduced band on the average conjugation length is accounted for in terms of a first-order perturbative approach to the electron-electron interaction.© (1992) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
