Abstract Photometric measures of the solar photograph of July io, 1937, were reduced with the aid of a correction for the spreading of the image, derived from the profiles of the finest markings visible. The largest distinct granules have a corrected diameter of i and are 15 per cent brighter than the background matter visible between them. The data for the average bright granules recognizable under favorable observing conditions are much less certain, but the most probable values for their dimensions are i ~`o to I `:2 and for the ratio of granular to background intensity, between 1.15 and 1.20 Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: June 1939 DOI: 10.1086/144085 Bibcode: 1939ApJ....89..604K full text sources ADS |
