Photometrie Measurement of High Cell Density Culture Broth with Continuous Dilution System

Abstract

Measurement of cell density of culture broth is the most important operation during the cultivation of microorganism because various specific rates such as specific substrate consumption rate, specific growth rate and specific production rate are calculated with the cell density and the condition of the culture is presumed from these specific rates. In addition, supply of nutrients, especially metal ions [1], to the fermentor in fed-batch culture have been carried out based on the cell density. Therefore, it is important to know the cell density of the culture broth exactly and quickly.
