Abstract

Dimesityl disulphide (MS-SM) proved to be a particular suitable model compound for investigating the photo-dissociation reaction of aromatic disulphides. The rate and mechanism of the photo-dissociation of MS-SM in the presence of an active hydrogen donor such as 9,10-dihydroanthracene was studied in a plurality of solvents. Generally, rate constants were found to decrease with increasing kinematic viscosity of the solvent.
