Abstract

A very important isotopic effect for the ratio of molecular and atomic hydrogen yield in the photolysis of ammonia at 147 and 123.6 nm has been found [Formula: see text] while at 185 nm [Formula: see text].The dissociation NH3 + hv → (X3Σ −) + H + H occurs for wavelengths as high as 147 nm which implies that DNH−H ≤ 90 kcal mol−1.The rate constant of the reaction D + ND3 → D2 + ND2 has been evaluated [Formula: see text].
