Abstract

The effects of heat treatment in excess or dissociative Cd vapor pressure and the effects of electron or neutron irradiation on photoluminescence spectra at 4.2 K in CdTe single crystals have been investigated. Four groups of emission bands appeared. Heat treatment in dissociative Cd vapor suppressed all bands, but excess Cd vapor enhanced two of them, possibly due to the introduction of Cd interstitials or Te vacancies. One group was enhanced by electron or neutron irradiation, but the other group was enhanced only by neutron irradiation. Time resolved spectroscopy revealed that another group was mainly due to the electronic transitions between donor-acceptor pairs.
