Abstract

The photoluminescence (PL) and scintillation emission spectra of β-BaB2O4 single crystal were studied at different temperatures from 9 to 300 K. In PL, intense emission appeared at 430 nm with a sub-peak at 365 nm, and the X-ray-induced scintillation spectrum was close to PL. When we investigated the temperature dependence of PL and scintillation, the PL intensity increased at lower temperature while the scintillation intensity decreased. This tendency can be understood to be due to thermal activation via the trapping phenomenon associated with thermally stimulated luminescence with shallow traps.
