Abstract

Both deoxygenation and K doping (0.01–0.1 at %) enhance the efficiency of the broad photoluminescence (PL) band observed at 0.8 eV in nominally pure Se glass at ∼6K by a factor of 10, and introduce a second, weaker, narrower PL band centered near 0.57 eV. With increasing temperature the 0.8 eV band is thermally quenched while the efficiency of the 0.57 eV band increases and becomes dominant at 77K. In oxygen contaminated Se glass the 0.8 eV PL remains the dominant band at 77K.
