Abstract
Summary Thylakoids, isolated from primary leaves of wheat six days after sowing, were exposed to white light at an intensity of 1500 μE m −2 s −1 for up to 30 min. The rate of light-saturated non-cyclic electron transport, pigment content and pattern of polypeptides of thylakoid samples taken during this time were examined. The decrease in the rate of non-cyclic electron transport correlated with a loss of some thylakoid polypeptides. No changes in pigment composition were observed. The mechanism which is responsible for this hydrolysis is presently under investigation.
