Abstract

Abstract 9,10-Dicyanoanthracene(DCA)-sensitized isomerization of (E)- and (Z)-isomers of an oxime ether of 2-acetylnaphthalene (E-1 and Z-1, respectively) was investigated in benzene by means of steady irradiation and laser flash photolysis. The excited singlet DCA was effectively quenched by E-1 and Z-1 to afford exciplexes, decay of which gave DCA triplets or 1 triplets. The triplet state of 1 was proposed as the isomerization intermediate and the formation efficiency of 1 triplets was estimated from isomerization quantum yields.
