Abstract
The R-matrix method is used to obtain cross sections for the photoionization of the 2s22p32D degrees , 2P degrees , 2s22p2(3P)3s 4P, 2P; 2s2p44P, and 2s22p2(3P)3p 2S degrees excited states of atomic nitrogen. Excellent accord is found with the calculation of Zeippen et al. (1980) for the 2D degrees and 2P degrees metastable states and the cross sections for these two states are now believed known to a high degree of accuracy. The cross section for the 2S degrees state differs from previous calculations and for this state a calculation is also performed for the asymmetry parameter beta and the results found to differ significantly from earlier work.
