Abstract

The efficiencies of the photoinduced oxidation of Fe(bipy) 2(CN) 2 (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) and reduction of Fe(bipy) 2(CN) 2 + and the rate constants of the latter complex were determined in the absence and presence of sodium laurylsulphate detergent. The mechanism of the photoreduction was interpreted by the formation of OH · and laurylsulphate (LS ·) radicals in homogeneous and micellar solutions respectively. The quantum yields and rate constants obtained for the reactions studied allowed a quantitative description to be made of the complete photolysis of Fe(bipy) 2(CN) 2.
