Abstract
Using Raman spectroscopy, we measured the phonon frequency shift of the apical O vibration in insulating YBa 2Cu 3O 6.25 as a function of photo-induced doping. We excited samples with short high peak power laser pulses to produce charge carrier concentrations comparable to those obtained by chemical doping. Measurements showed that the photo-induced frequency shift of apical O phonon frequency is much smaller than the frequency shift produced by bulk heating or chemical doping indicating the importance of surrounding lattice ions on the apical O potential.
