Abstract

A study that is being performed on a 13.2 kV distribution system located on an exposed plateau near Little Falls, NY, is described. Four automated camera systems and a substation fault recorder are utilized. All camera locations afford excellent views of lines and equipment likely to be struck by lightning. Initial field results on induced surges, direct strikes, and transmission line shielding failure are reported. Plans for follow up research are indicated.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
