Abstract

The method of Frerichs, which gives spectral lines formed by a concave grating with stepped intensities by using the “aperture restrictor”, was studied in detail and extended to wider spectral range. It was shown that the spectral intensity is not proportional to the width of illuminated area of the grating, that is, to the width of the rectangular aperture on the aperture restricting diaphragm. The relation between the area and the irradiance of spectral images was investigated. A small 20 cm concave grating spectrograph was constructed with an angle of incidence of 13°, and the spectrum with stepped intensities was taken in the extreme ultraviolet region. By analysing the results the characteristic curves of some photographic emulsions were obtained in this spectral range. At the same time the partial efficiency of the concave grating was checked by the photoelectric method.
