Abstract

Emission features resulting from 193 nm photolysis of diborane and previously attributed to BH 3 are now assigned to (a) a new band of BH 2, and (b) atomic tin. The tin lines resulted from the presence of a stannane impurity in the diborane. The atomic tin emission arises from single-photon dissociation of SnH 4, energy limitations imply that the excitation process is SnH 4+ hv → Sn* + 2H 2.
