Abstract
The interaction of a carbonyl group with two adjacent aromatic units is discussed. The outer valence electronic structure of compounds of general formula PhCOAr, where Ar is phenyl, substituted phenyl, furyl and thienyl, is determined from their gas phase photoelectron spectra. Particular attention is paid to biologically active derivatives of 2-amino-5-chlorobenzophenone.
