Abstract
We report the observation of a very rich reorientational dynamics of the molecular director of a 5CB nematic film, induced by an elliptically polarized c.w.-laser beam above the threshold for the Optical Fréedericksz Transition. In despite of the very complicated character of the observed motions, a simple model, based on continuum theory and angular momentum conservation reproduces very well the experimental findings.
