Abstract

The fluorescence of NO resulting from photodissociation of organic nitrites (CH3ONO, CD3ONO, C2H5ONO,i-C3H7ONO) has been studied by using synchrotron radiation as the source of excitation in the (1200÷1700) A spectral region. The fluorescence excitation spectra for NOA2Σ+,C2Π,D2Σ+ are reported and compared with the absorption spectra of the parent compound. The vibrational-energy disposal in NOA2Σ+ has been determined as a function of excitation energy and the results are diseussed in terms of a statistical energy distribution among the fragments with a particular emphasis on possible deviation from RRKM predictions.
